Dental Archimedes Drill, by Collins – French, and second part 19th century. The drive shaft is made of steel, the swiveling gear head is made of steel as well, and a plated brass fixation handles. Only one drill in high quality steel has been preserved. This model of dental Archimedes drill holders is an early model (for a very close model with ivory handels see Bennion, Antique dental instruments, page 67, photo 70). a beautiful and rare dentistry instrument in perfect working order. This dental drill is large : 21,5 cm lenght without drill bit, 18 cm.
