Hypsometer in Case.

Sold

A Nice example of a Hypsometer with a early mercurial mountain barometer. The capillary thermometer is signed by “F. Jerate in Prag”.  The thermometer scals go from 0 to 24 degrees and there is a magnifier on the tube to read the exactly tempature. At the bottom is a spirit lamp to heat a water chamber that  produces steam in a jacket that holds the Thermometer. A hypso meter is used for estimating heights by measuring the temperature at which water boils. The boiling point depends on air ppressure, which reduces with height by 1 grade Celsius for 298,5 metres of ascent. It comes in a lovely leather case with Chamois leather inside. Measurements case 41 x 12 x 10 cm.
