French Bleeding bowl

An marked tin-silver french bleeding bowl which would have been used for blood letting removed through venesection in France in the 19th century. The hallmark gives the following images: Etain – French Lily – Fish – Crown – and the letters S & E, Dimensions 14 x 11,5 x 2 cm

The practice of bleeding patients  for a host of different ailments was common throughout Europe in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
