Dunn’s Model eye by Davidson & Co.

A complete set of “Dunn’s Model eye” or “Skiascopic Model Eye” by F. Davidson & Co, 29 Great Portland Street, London, W. Early 20th C. The set consist of an artificial eye, 6 lenses and 17 different hand painted retinae. The artificial eye has a turning disk with 3 different holes, simulating the pupil, a lens holder and on the back you can put one of the 17 retinae for study the retinae. Doctors trained with these to learn how to examine the fundus of the eye and to perform retinoscopy to determine the refractive error of the eye. It is identified to be from the early 1900s. It is made of metal (painted black) and inside the barrel is a detailed print of the inside of an eye. It is made of metal with printed retinal image on focusing slide in a dark chamber, visible through the lens and with a mount and astigmatism scale for use with standard corrective lenses. Measurements box 16 x 10 x 6 cm.
