Our original version of the camera lucida , probably french c. 1830, comprises a small glass prism held in a fixed position by an adjustable brass support. .
The prism is shaped and orientated so that the rays of light from the scene are reflected twice within the prism before reaching the eye. It is kept in the original brown leather, and purple velvet lined, case. Meas: 23 x 8.5 x 6cm.
