Eye surgery set Fratelli Lollini, ca 1880-1900

On application

An eye surgery set made by Fratelli Lollini. This ophthalmological set contains six scalpels, six forceps, one silver mounted syringe of which the glass is broken, and some and some other tools. On the other level, which can be clipped open and unfolded, several other instruments are to be found. These instruments are made of refined steel with curled handles: two catheters, two eyelid holders, two tweezers and three scissors. The case is original and has wearing of the instruments. The outer case is made of red leather and the inner case is made of red velour.

Many instruments of Italian origin that trace their roots to the nineteenth century hail from companies based in Bologna. During that era, these firms expanded their operations into the European markets. A prime example is Fratelli Lollini, who were recognized as “suppliers of the House of His Majesty the King of Italy”. They were renowned for crafting a diverse range of instruments, including surgical and orthopedic equipment, veterinary surgery tools, cutlery, razors, and more. The company held multiple certificates from national exhibitions, notably clinching the top prize at the Universal Exhibition in London in 1862 and securing the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867.
