Fine Early Neurosurgery outfit, 18th century.

English mid 18th century, signed on the scalpel and the S. Sharp double-jawes cranium forceps with a crown and star, Neuro surgical set. This set is contained in its original (24x20x6 cm) fitted wood case covered in black fishskin and lined in red velvet, the case with brass hines, excutheon, handle plate, and latches, all elegantly shaped. Present is a complete trepanation set of polished steel tools with turned handles of beautifully grained tropical hardwood. Included are two cutting trephines of different diameters, each with central pin and mounted with large boldly shaped handles; wood handled brass tool for removing the central pins; arrowhead perforator; Samuel Sharp double-jawed cranium forcep; elevator raspatory; two lenticulars; tripod supporting articulated elevator raspatory; two lenticulars; tripod supporting articulated elevator with serrated surface; and large scalpel . all is original to the set. Missing is a little scraper tip from one lenticular.
