Belgian navy surgical set by Maison Denis a Bruxelles, c. 1865

Polished mahogany Marine de guerre surgical case with red velvet interior by the Maison “Denis -Bruxelles”. On the top, the case is inscribed “Docteur G.De Forchaux -amputation & résection”. The set contains 27 instruments, including one Denis signed trephine with guilloche ebony handle, with two interchangeable and adjustable brass-metal heads, two Bonneels Bruxelles Gigli flexible saw handles with chain, four Denis signed wire pullers with guilloche ebony handles, one large curved (silver?) metal cannula, one boxwood bone splinter brush with boar bristle, one unclearly signed large scalpel with bone handle, a scalpel with ebony handle signed Hamon, one hernia knife M,B,N, A, N, N, ,4 amputation knives with engine-turned ebony handles, a Tiemann signed metacarpal saw, a brass, four amputation knives of which two by Denis a Bruxelles and one by Sir Henry a Paris. At the other layer a small forceps signed by Denis, a bone cutting forceps signed by Denis, a Galante scraper, and Charriere scoop, two cautery irons signed Denis, a trocar of ivory and polished steel by Bonneels and tweezers of which one signed by Denis A Bruxxelles.
