Ivory doctor’s lady, C 1890.

A Chinese Ivory model of a woman, a so-called ‘doctor’ C 1890, which Chinese physicians used to examine their patients, particularly women. These diagnostic dolls served as a substitute for indicating the painful areas. Finely carved ivory from a single piece, depicting a reclining naked woman leaning on her left arm. She is wearing shoes and holds, which is rare, a fan in front of her chest; her hair is pinned up and her eyes are very lightly coloured with black ink, as are the fan and the shoes. A fairly rare model with a fan, which conceals part of the anatomy and is intended exclusively for Western tourists. Model in very good condition.
