A anemometer is an instrument for measuring either the velocity or the pressure of the wind. The ‘robinson’ model, still in use today, was developed in 1845 by the irish astronomer thomas robinson. His device is fitted with a wheel carrying three or more arms that hold hemispherical metal/ brass goblets, set in motion by the wind. The goblets serve as a counter. 30cm high, arms 20cm long and the copper cups 13cm in diam.
