A large Charrière surgery instrument case of circa 1850/ 1860. Made of Steel, ebony, brass, glass, pewter, wood and red velvet; Including seven trays signed and signed ‘Charrière à Paris’. This is certainly a work from the 1850s-1860s, with no maker’s mark. The voluminous box contains amputation instruments, bleeding instruments, gynaecological instruments, dental instruments and a series of forceps, scissors, knives and scalpels for general and minor surgery. Despite some missing items and replacements, this is a rare size. Marine surgical cases with gynaecological instruments and scarification cups are rare. Dimensions: 52x28x15cm.
