“Galante” Mastoid drill in case, C 1875
An unique French, c. 1875, Mastoid drill set in original case and signed on the drill with “Galante”. Galante was situated with Instruments de Chirurgie on the 2 rue de l’Ecole de Medecine, Paris, This fine set comprises four crown drills, two central drill ( one broken) and the drill. The two wood handles of the drill are ebony. The full set is contained in its original 20 x 8 x 5 cm wood case covered in black fabric and lined with purple velvet. The set is complete and all original, with one centrale drill fixed in the crown drill. The maker was Henri Galante, established in Paris in 1851. Catalogues are known from 1853 to 1885 (see Davis and Dreyfuss), and the firm had representatives in London and in Naples.
