Dr. Krishaber’s Laryngoscope set, c. 1865

Dr. Krishaber’s Laryngoscope set for visualizing the larynx with an indirect (candle) light. The case is made of black leather with a purple velvet interior. It is a complete set with lenses and two square mirrors.
Maurice Krishaber (1836-1883) was a otorhinolaryngologist who was naturalised to the French nationality from a Jewish Hungarian origin. He studied medicine at the University of Vienna and the University of Prague and completed his studies in Paris in 1859. He became an active member of the German Medical Society in Paris on 11 May 1865. His publications, which appeared in Paris, were clearly oriented towards the ENT sphere, which he practised.
Krishaber published an instruction of the laryngoscope in 1865, called Instruction practique a L’usage du Laringoscope.
