Obstretic model of a baby

A 19th century obstetric model of a baby made of chamois leather and used for educational purposes. Coming from the simpson collection in edinburgh. The body has an attached umbilical cord (red and blue strand) and placenta. The head has a mouth, nose, eye sockets, 1 ear, front and rear fontanelles that can be identified by palpation. Student doctors and midwives would be asked to feel the baby’s head inside an artificial basin and would be expected to identify the type of presentation.
