A large iron banded, wooden, six spoked surveying wheel (diameter 81 cm) for measuring distances on the ground. Waywisers ,also called odometers, is signed by b. Martin, london circa1810. The distance, on the brass plate, are from inside- to outside ring: furlongs-mile-poles- yards-chain & link. There is also an discription; 40 poles = 220 yards = 10 chains = 1 furlong, 3 furlongs = 1 mile, 4 poles = 1 chain, it will recording on the brass dial situated under a hinged glazed cover, beneath the handle.
