Weiss London amputation set, c. 1850

An amputation set by Weiss of the mid-19th century. The instruments are made of steel with guilloche ebony handles. Including a tenon amputation saw with English handle by S. Maw Son & Thompson (replacement), three Liston knives, four (of five) scalpels (by Chapman, Ferguson, Hilliard & Weiss), two further loose scalpels one by Hilliard & Chapman, bone forceps, a Signorini’s (modification) tourniquet. The set is incomplete, contained in fitted velvet-lined, mahogany case.
