Charles Dubois amputation case, c. 1870-1880

A large cased amputation set by Charles Dubois à Paris, dated between 1870 and 1880. The set is signed ‘Dubois rue St André des Arts 34’ and is well preserved and complete. Once it was in possession of ‘Docteur Daudé’. A ‘Doctor Daudé’ who resided in Marvejols in Lozère was active during the years 1860-1880.
The first tray contains seven knives and scalpels, two curved needles, two retractors, bone forceps or incisal pliers and a flat gouge. The lower tray contains a long strip of purple cloth for the compressor used as a tourniquet, a pair of red forceps, a pair of double-jointed Farabeuf forceps and a pair of Charrière-Farabeuf shears (signed by Collin et Cie but original). The tray in the lid includes an amputation saw, nine pairs of scissors, a lead mallet, a Gigli saw (one handle incomplete), a hollow gouge, a second flat gouge, four pliers and a set of curved needles. Also included is a set of twenty Béniqué probes (i.e. urethral probes), from the same Daudé source and also signed Dubois.
