A Maison Charriere walnut delivery case containing 25 instruments. The top layer includes a Smellie perforator, a loose perforator, three metal cannulas, a small director, with median groove and flat handle with key-hole slot, three pairs of scissors, a circular wooden box and two lancets, one signed Perras Toulouse and one signed Capro with a crowned star. At the bottom layer a large delivery forceps signed Bordeaux, a canvas tourniquet, a pewter clyster syringe with two crew-on tips, two pessaries of glass and earthenware, a small speculum, a small silver syringe, one Panshement Stella bottle of chloroform in box signed: ‘Chloroform, Pansement & Solutions aseptiques Materiel stérilisé pour operations Chimiquement pur pour Anesthésie’, a silver nitrate pencil, and a key, tow boxwood nipple shields signed by Charriere ‘Par brevet D’invention Charriere Rue de L’Ecole 9 A Paris.
